Glenananananaaaa

I know I have mentioned in my previous entry that I will be blogging about the Sorrento Quay, which is situated just next to AQWA. I felt that I just needed to blog about this event that happened one week ago, a huge celebration for a very well loved and special friend, Glenna. It was her 21st birthday, and I was invited to her costume party. The dress code was.... occupation !!

As expected, heaps and heaps of people turned up for her birthday bash. Did I say HEAPS??

Glenna is really a wonderful person. Though I have only known her for a little over a year, she has surprised me on several encounters, each and every one of them has become meaningful and memorable !! I shall share one encounter, which I have already blogged about last year. It was my last day in Perth before leaving on Saturday, I met Glenna on the bus in the afternoon. I told her about my sudden departure, but I also told her that I would be there for my last OCF meeting with everyone the coming night.

Guess what she did? She managed to organize a simple farewell party for me that very night, and she baked a cake that I liked very much, the chocolate mud cake !! Imagine I only told her in the afternoon, and she managed to pull everything off. I felt deeply touched by her quick and really thoughtful response, and it was the first time I had a cake baked with my name written on it. I just could not thank her enough for that. GIRL power..

In case you are wondering, I dressed myself as a Civil Engineer (which is who I really am now), or more appropriately a construction worker, with a safety vest and a helmet. I did not camwhore with my costume because the safety vest is reflective, and well, pictures just do not come out right with flash. Pictures would not come out right without flash too, dark indoor shooting.

I am darn sure everyone there had a blast for the entire night. The party started with some odd games, then with the interview with Glenna where Glenna gets to interview some unlucky randomly picked folks with some very random and hillarious but at the same time deep and meaningful questions. Right after all those crazy and wild stuff to heat things up, things moved a little further and more sentimental when three of Glenna's best friends gave their testimonial of Glenna in front of the HUGE crowd. Listening to the stories, one after another, through the funny ones and sad ones, and some really really touchy ones... I gotta admit I was nearing tears myself. I believe that Glenna is blessed with good friends, no.. GREAT friends around her, and the same goes likewise... herself being an awesome blessing to everyone around her.

I guess what I liked most about the party was little to do on how fun it was or how we laughed till our stomach hurts. I get to know Glenna much better, through the wonderful and priceless stories that I do not think people will just tell over casual times. There came a time when the father himself shared two shockingly stunning story which involved the matter of life and death, and by God's mercy and undying love, things worked out fine in the end. Listening deeper to their stories, opening not only my eyes but my heart as I listened, I found myself seeing the hand of God working in this blessed family Glenna belongs to.

To Glenna, I wish you a Happy Belated Birthday. I pray that the Lord will always be with you, and you will continue to grow in faith, and the blessings of heaven be always with you and your family. AQWA

Eversince I came to Perth many years ago (ok lar, not so many) I have always been wanting to have a visit to the AQWA (Aquarium of Western Australia). I have friends who are in Perth, and who have previously been to Perth, both highly recommending me to go and have a look-see. I just do not know why, I never made it there, and unwantingly I have turned down invitations after invitations, one included a trip with a group of hot Japanese Chicks and Hong Kong chicks. Lets just say shit happens, and yeah, finally I went there, today !! Hooraayyy....

SORRENTO BEACH

AQWA is located at Hillarys Boat Harbour, which is just by the seaside, overlooking the Indian Ocean. And the beach at the coast is known as Sorrento Beach. Seriously, the scenery there is superbly awesome !!

The boat harbour itself resembles what you may expect from the harbour at Fremantle, with many white boats and blue, blue waters. There is just something about white boats on blue waters that calls out to my soul. The view seems rather peaceful, with cold winter breeze over the bright afternoon sun.

After having a brief walk around the surrounding area, me with my cool friends, Khee Hwa and Jay headed into the main entrance of AQWA, and purchase our entry tickets. The price for an adult ticket is 25 bucks each, which is a big, big ouch for a cashless guy like myself. Nevertheless, since my student card has no expiry date printed on it, I just presented it to the cashier, and she happily smiled back at me and quoted a concession price of only 18 bucks for me and my friends. I just saved 7 fooking bucks for the day. Somehow, I do not feel guilty committing this little crime. In fact it was the opposite, I feel darn good about it.

The interior of the AQWA is subdivided into several main sections, with each section exhibiting different categories of underwater creatures found all over Western Australia. I seriously do not remember, or rather, I never paid much attention to the names of the sections. I just walked all around, and look at the fishes and creatures randomly. Of course, with a camera in hand, I tried to capture as many good pictures as possible.

This is the first section that we went into.

UNDERWATER TUNNEL

There were plenty of variety of marine life being showcased here, mainly the normal looking fishes, the not so normal looking fishes, sea turtles, stingrays, and many more. It was rather dark in the tunnel, and my camera did not do a good job capturing most of the pictures. Whoever was there would surely be stunned by the SHARKS. Yes, the number and the sizes of the sharks. They were HUGE I tell you, and there were MANY of them swimming around. It is hard to imagine the thin glass that separated the water from us could hold should one of the sharks decided to have fresh homo sapien meat for lunch.

I tried to take pictures of stingrays and turtles, but none of the pictures come out right, stupid retards all swimming darn fast. Dammit, can't they just slow down for a bit??

Then there was a section displaying deadly sea cratures that could kill you even as you touch it with your finger. Nothing impressive really, most of them look rather innocent, like the sea snake, and rock fish that could attack its prey at the speed of 1/20 second. And the puffer fish that the Japanese loves to use for their delicacies could also kill you.

There were plenty of coral displays as well.

Too bad, really, they never had real HUGE crocodiles on display. They ones they had were only the size of peanuts, and the only big one they had, was made of plastic. Why is this so? How can they not have one? Have they had any issues keeping one over the history? Like maybe the croc went loose and ate an elephant or something.

Anyway...

To me the most interesting creature in the entire AQWA is definitely the sea lions !! Seriously, the kids love them, the adults love them... I love them !!! They appear to be so much cuter in close looks, and their movements are just so adorably graceful. They have friendly and beautiful faces too, similar to those impressions I get when I see cats.

I am sure Feli would appreciate the AQWA very much, since she is studying marine biology stuff, and I have not much of a clue what and how things work around the creatures. Many of the creatures are being endangered, and WA has spent a fortune trying to preserve and restore the marine life and ecology over the years. Well, I think there is just so much we could do to save the environment, but as long as humans exist, and do what humans do best, the world will perish one day, from the sins of mankind alone.

We checked the schedule as we have come to the end of our tour, and we found out that there was a special presentation for the visitors !! They were giving s short presentation on the sea lion training session, and I gotta tell you, seeing how smart those creatures are, it just made sea lions even more likeable. They can do plenty of tricks, and boy, the audeince was really impressed and enjoyed the whole show.

Somehow, I felt very, very satisfied about the entire trip. Partly because I have been wanting to go to AQWA for a long time, and I finally made it there. The Hillarys Boat Harbour alone is amazing enough, and a worthy tourist attraction by itself.

Hot Chicks Dancing on Stage

Like any usual car shows, there will always be hot girls being showcased to the public. I seriously fail to see any connection in between hot chicks and cars. Why am I saying this? Well, to men in general, the common thing for girls and cars... they drive men crazy and drool like a dog just at the sight of them. To me, the statement is true for girls, but not for cars. Thats why I mentioned I could not see and understand why hot girls will always be there with any hot car shows.

Anyway, when I went in the Perth Autosalon 2007, I did not expect much from the hot chicks. After all, Autosalon is mainly for showcasing modified owned cars, not for promotional or selling cars. However, I was pretty amazed by the overall turnout of the event. There was a center stage, not that huge, but good enough to fit several hot chicks together to create live performance !! I tell you, if the whole event was for the cars only, I would have thought my money could have gone to waste. Thanks for the chicks, every single buck I spent was worth it.

Hey, I am not as ham-sap as you think ok !! That previous sentence must have produced some very wrong impression of me, just view it as a naively straight point of view.

When the crowds started to gather near the stage, and the DJ started to pump up the funky tunes, you know something huge and different was gonna happen. Then the lights went on super bright on the stage. And it began.

Here are the MCs for the show. I could not remember their names actually I did not care, who cares when there were chicks around right? and I must admit they did very amazing job in building up the hype and excitement of the crowd before the start of the show. They managed to heat up the house.

The girls were basically dancing on stage, and dressed up in skimpy and tight features, they successfully stole the attention of all the guys. Their dance moves were superb, and the music was just awesome. They moved so fast and fluidly smooth in all their steps. There was something strange though, why were all of them blonde?

The response from the audeince was magnificent. There were young KIDS watching mind you, and oh well, this is the Land of Aussie anyway, you get exposed at those kind of things like they were nothing. But I seriously like the atmosphere of having myself immersed deeply into the loud cheering and screaming of excitement from all around me. It just somehow feels like I am in a concert, but better. Of course, those useless tall ang moh bastards standing in front of me did not make my life easy taking those photos !! BAHH !!!

I was there late in the afternoon, and that was the last scheduled performance for the day. The performance lasted approximately more than half an hour, with shows from at least no less than five groups of dancers, and some of them came all the way from Melbourne. Of course I did not take pictures of ALL of them lar, limited battery and memory ok? Not to mention it was indoor, and those babes move like lightning. Darn hard to take steady shots.
